Sherlock

Best.
Sherlock Holmes adaptation.
EVARRRR!!!!

Set in London in the present day, Watson is a returning Afghanistan vet, and Holmes is...well, he's still Holmes, but with some twists.  For instance, he prefers nicotine patches to a pipe.  And he's now a "high-functioning sociopath." Kind of like Hannibal Letcter, really, except he's more interested in catching criminals than doing crimes.

The series is great fun for fans of London (like me). You can play "spot the landmark." Along with obvious places like St. Paul's, I also spotted the Battersea Power Station (famously featured on the cover of Pink Floyd's Animals album), and the north end of Blackfriar's Bridge, where the body of Roberto Calvi was found after his mysterious murder.

There were three episodes released this year, and three more are due next year.  I really, really, really liked the first and third epis, and recommend them highly.  Number two didn't speak to me, I'm not sure why.

Watson gets a girlfriend early on (after he and Holmes are mistaken for a gay couple multiple times).  She's played by the Zoe Telford.  She's lovely, in an earnest, English, girl-next-door kind of way.  Poking around on the web, I stumbled upon a video of snippets of her acting work, on the website of her management.  Take a look, she's quite talented.  And here are some pics:
